The Afghan Geodesy and Cartography President Visits Washington
Geodesy and Cartography President Abdul Raouf Yari visited Washington, D.C. on June 2-13, 2008. Accompanied by members of the executive management of the Afghan Geodesy and Cartography Head Office (AGCHO) and Colonel Waris Khan Momand from the Afghan National Army, President Yari attended bilateral meetings and participated in technical seminars to discuss issues relating to the Afghan Mapping Initiative, a cooperative relationship between AGCHO and the U.S. National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA).
In a reception hosted in honor of the AGCHO delegation, NGA Director Vice Admiral Robert B. Murrett reaffirmed NGA’s continued support for helping AGCHO implement the Afghan Mapping Initiative, as well as equipping and building AGCHO’s technical capacity. "The Afghan Mapping Initiative is key to Afghanistan’s reconstruction and development, and we appreciate the vital support NGA continues to provide us to implement this nationally important project," said President Yari.
On behalf of Ambassador Said Tayeb Jawad, Political Counselor Ashraf Haidari thanked Director Murrett for the NGA’s commitment to supporting Afghanistan's reconstruction efforts through the mapping initiative. "Mapping Afghanistan is one of our key rebuilding priorities, and we are grateful to the American people and government for your multifaceted assistance," Haidari said in his remarks. He also thanked NGA staff Bruce Kiracofe, Susan Best, and their colleagues for facilitating the productive visit of AGCHO delegation to the U.S.
